A local trucking company already has a reputation for bringing an artistic flair to the company’s fleet with bright, multicolored trucks and beds, and now Rockit Trucking in Elizabethtown is taking team spirit on the road.

Owner Ricki Crain grew tired years ago of the existing yellow and orange trucks and logos. He inverted the colors on a truck and began incorporating more colors into his fleet after receiving a positive response.

“Right away, we found out it turned into a marketing tool,” he said. “We never even had to have our name on the trucks. Everyone knew whose trucks they were from state to state.”

Two of the company’s most recent additions pay tribute to the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals. Each team is represented by a dump truck bearing its colors and decals of its mascot and school name.

Crain hopes to have the trucks completed and on the road by Monday. They’ll be used to haul sand and gravel throughout the state and part of Indiana. The business also hauls salt for the state.

The two trucks are Crain’s new favorites in his fleet.

“I’ve done every color combination in the world and we’re big fans,” he said. “I’ve been running out of colors and ideas. March Madness is going on, and we thought, ‘What about a U of L and a UK truck?’”

Employees are split about which team they prefer and Crain said they each have an opinion about which truck they’d rather drive.

Crain mostly is a UK fan, but supports Louisville when the teams aren’t facing off.

Reaction to the new trucks has been positive, including from U of L officials, he said.

Crain said Kentuckians tend to be passionate about sports and area teams, and he thought the trucks would show support for that enthusiasm.

“I feel like giving it back,” he said.
