Two preschoolers died following a wreck Wednesday evening in Meade County.

Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown responded to the double fatality collision in the area of Ky. 1239 and Sirocco Road. A KSP news release said that at approximately 6:50 p.m. EST Wednesday, Randi Copher, 30 of Cloverport was traveling south on Midway Road in a 2003 Honda Civic. Her two children, ages 1 and 3, were passengers in the car.

At the same time, Brenton K. Ross, 37, of Brandenburg was traveling north on Midway Road in a 1988 Toyota 4Runner.

For unknown reasons, police say the Honda driven by Copher went into a spin and crossed the center line causing the vehicles to collide in the northbound lane. The 1-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by the Meade County Coroner’s Office.

Randi Copher and the 3-year-old were transported to the nearest hospital in Harrison County, Indiana, where that child also died.

Copher later was transported to the University Hospital in Louisville where she remains in stable condition, according to the news release.

Brenton Ross was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown with non-life threatening injuries.

Both drivers submitted to the standard blood tests and toxicology is pending, KSP said. The crash remains under investigation by KSP Trooper Brandon Brooks, who is a trained accident reconstructionist.

KSP was assisted at the scene by the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Meade County EMS and the coroner’s office.
