A head-on collision Wednesday afternoon in front of the LaRue County Country Club in Buffalo claimed the lives of two men.

Anthony Worner, 36, of Buffalo and Thomas Underwood of LaRue County were killed when their vehicles collided around 4 p.m. Underwood was pronounced dead at the scene. Worner was pronounced dead later that day at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

LaRue County Sheriff Merle Edlin said speeding or alcohol didn’t appear to be factors in the crash. He said he has worked crash scenes for more than 20 years and the impact was harsh.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an impact like this,” he said. Edlin said it appeared Underwood’s vehicle crossed the center line.

The speed limit along that stretch of highway is 55 mph, he said.

“Two vehicles going 55 creates a horrendous impact and that’s exactly what we had,” Edlin said.

According to Worner’s obituary, he was a married father of three daughters and worked as a truck driver for Midwest Logistics Systems in Glendale. His funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville. Burial follows in Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.

Arrangement information for Underwood was unavailable Thursday.
