Two wrecks injure several on I-65 on Memorial Day

HARDIN COUNTY — Two separate wrecks along Interstate 65 on Monday, one near Elizabethtown and the other near Glendale, resulted in several people being injured including two children involved in a wreck near Elizabethtown.

The Elizabethtown wreck occurred around noon Monday when a southbound driver swerved to avoid colliding with a merging vehicle near the 94 mile-marker.

According to Kentucky State Police, the driver lost control and traveled across three lanes of traffic and overturned.

Two juvenile passengers, one 7 and the other 18 months, were airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville with non-life threatening injuries. The driver, 30-year-old Kelly Smith of Shelbyville, was uninjured, police said.

According to a police report, the car seat for the infant had not been installed properly.

The second crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the northbound lane of I-65 near Glendale. Details were not immediately available. An air ambulance had been called to the scene.
