The Hardin County coroner has identified the body discovered Tuesday night at Buffalo Lake as a 28-year-old Elizabethtown man. Authorities are in the process of notifying next of kin.
Police and rescue workers responded to an emergency call at the reservoir on the southeast side of Elizabethtown, shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday. It initially was described as an apparent drowning but Dr. William Lee, the county coroner, has not released a cause of death pending an autopsy.
Lee arrived in the neighborhood off Logan Avenue just after 9 p.m. after being contacted by first responders.
The lake is in an isolated area not readily accessible by vehicles. Emergency workers had to hike more than a half-mile crossing downed trees, brush and then over the railroad and down an incline.
