Three vehicles, including an ambulance, were involved in collision

A crash reconstructionist from Kentucky State Police reports that a fatal collision Thursday night on Ky. 313 in Meade County began when a 2008 Pontiac failed to stop at an intersection.

The car's driver, 27-year-old Sarah S. Hottell of Brandenburg, died in the collision with a Meade County ambulance. Her 10-month-old child, who was restrained in a car seat, was transported to Kosair Children's Hospital for care, KSP reported.

According to KSP, witness statements and evidence at the scene indicated that Mrs. Hottell, who worked as a pharmacist at Rite Aid in Brandenburg, failed to stop at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection at Ky. 313, which was extended into Meade County last year.

The ambulance, which was southbound, swerved but was unable to avoid the Pontiac, the police statement said. It struck the Pontiac in the driver’s side front and the car ran into a ditch.

The ambulance, which was driven by 49-year-old Todd Flory of Vine Grove, left the road and overturned on the south side of the intersection ejecting both Flory and EMT Michael Wise, 48, of Payneville.

Wise and Flory were taken to University Hospital in Louisville with what were described by police as serious injuries. Both men were listed in fair condition Friday.

Also involved in the crash was a black Volkswagen driven by 47-year-old Maria P. Williams of Brandenburg, which was northbound on Ky 313 and approaching the intersection. Williams was treated and released at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

Trooper Terry Whittaker, the Post 4 reconstructionist, is continuing the investigation.
