USA Cares is looking for residents interested in knocking down a few pins for a good cause.

USA Cares hosts a kickoff luncheon at noon Jan. 10 at Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown for its second annual Stars and Strikes Bowl-a-thon. The luncheon is an opportunity to discuss details of the fundraiser and features guest speaker Bryan Anderson.

Money raised from the bowl-a-thon will assist the organization in serving Fort Knox soldiers and their families, Special Events Coordinator Misty Gardner said. The fundraiser begins near the end of February and runs into March. The luncheon provides information about the event and the organization.

“It lets everybody know more about USA Cares,” she said.

Anderson is a spokesman for the national organization. He is an Iraq War veteran and a triple amputee, and he will tell his story at the luncheon, Gardner said.

“He is just amazing,” she said.

Those interested in the bowl-a-thon can pay $50 and form a team to participate. They can bowl a couple games, enjoy free pizza and take part in a silent auction, Gardner said.

Reservations for the luncheon can be made at (270) 872-4422 by Friday.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s going to be really neat,” Gardner said.
