With booming outside from Fort Knox on Tuesday, those involved with the proposed Hardin County Veterans Tribute took a sneak peek at the first statue — a U.S. Army soldier.
The life-size sculpture, which took artist Rich Griendling three months to create in clay, will be joined by representatives from each military branch. A pair of bronze boots that will honor prisoners of war and those who are missing in action will sit in the middle of the Pentagon-shaped tribute at the future Nature Park off Ring Road. The piece also will honor civil service workers.
