VFW Post No. 10281 provides community support

-A A +A

The commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10281 in Vine Grove receives letters requesting a monetary donation several times each month from school groups, youth sports teams, local businesses conducting a charitable event and from large organizations. One such request came from the Isaiah Alonso Foundation to help sponsor its first golf scramble at Lindsey Golf Course at Fort Knox. The event is to honor the memory of Isaiah Alonso, a childhood cancer patient, who succumbed to the disease. It also will help provide attention to the fact that childhood cancer is a deadly disease, 46 children are diagnosed with cancer each weekday and seven children perish from the disease. The post donated $150.

Members approved support of North Hardin High School’s request to purchase 36 T-shirts for a donation of $420.

Also receiving assistance from the VFW Post is the Art of Kentucky, an organization that works to support Kentucky’s citizens with developmental and intellectual disabilities. This organization was created in 1950 to promote a better quality of life for Kentucky’s children and adults with those disabilities to realize their goals in life. The Arc of Kentucky received a donation of $150.

Another recent request came from Ronald McDonald House Charities, for which members approved a donation of $315 to sponsor a family for a three-week stay, allowing a worried mom to be with her hospitalized baby.
