The local Y-Club, part of the YMCA, under the leadership of Kimberly Shepherd, received a donation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10281 and its Ladies Auxiliary to assist with expenses for Y-Club members to attend a conference, the Kentucky Youth Assembly. In explanation, Shepherd said, “This is a three-day learning conference where students participate directly in a simulation of the Commonwealth’s Democratic process. Acting as senators and representatives, students write, debate and vote on legislation that affects them. As candidates, lobbyists or members of the media, students experience the rich spectrum of activity that constitutes our political process. As advocates and justices, students argue and judge a legal case in the actual Supreme Court chambers of Kentucky.” Pictured from left, Lonnie Dennis, principal of North Hardin High School, Aaron Vance, Y-Club president, Butch Ferrell, VFW Commander, who presented a check, Kim Shepherd, Debbie Ferrell, Auxiliary senior vice president, who presented a check on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW and Allie Dennis.
