Vine Grove Elementary School is ready for a new school year with a new leader.
Greg Sutton, who worked as assistant principal at J.T. Alton Middle School, has been hired as principal of Vine Grove Elementary.
Sutton replaces Lonnie Dennis, who was hired as principal at North Hardin High School. Carlena Sheeran originally was selected to replace Dennis but later decided to remain in her position as director of early childhood education.
Sutton began his teaching career at T.K. Stone Middle School in Elizabethtown before moving to J.T. Alton in Vine Grove to his current position in 1999.
Sutton said in a news release he is excited to begin working with a staff he called “the best of the best.”
“I have a passion for Vine Grove Elementary School and for this community,” he said. “Since I came here 13 years ago, the people have been tremendous. Our children have attended Vine Grove Elementary, and we are proud of the education they received here.”
Superintendent Nannette Johnston said Sutton’s Vine Grove residency is an asset in his new position.
“Greg lives in Vine Grove and he has worked there for the past 13 years as an administrator,” Johnston said. “Being a leader in a close-knit community is key to a principal’s success.”
J.T. Alton Principal Jama Bennett said in the release Sutton’s hire will create an even better relationship between the two schools.
