Hardin County Schools has taken another step in beginning a renovation project on a north end elementary school.
The Hardin County Schools board approved a project application form for the Vine Grove Elementary School renovation at its regular meeting Thursday. The form goes to the Kentucky Department of Education for approval.
The board approved the document unanimously, with board member John Emary absent.
The renovation of the building will include updating systems, such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing and heating and air, according to the document. The roof will be replaced. Interior work will improve the floors, ceilings and windows.
There will be an addition to the building that will house relocated computer labs, according to the document.
The cost of construction is estimated at $4.6 million, with the total cost of the project estimated at $5.6 million, according to the document.
Peck Flannery Gream Warren Architects of Elizabethtown were chosen for the project in October.
The building first opened 50 years ago. It has a capacity of 500 students.
