Carriage rides, carols and the Clauses are part of a holiday celebration in Vine Grove this weekend.
The city of Vine Grove will host its annual Dickens of a Christmas event Friday and Saturday.
The event has lasted for 20 years, and events coordinator Donna Broadway said it’s the kind of event Vine Grove’s citizens anticipate.
“Our people in Vine Grove like to get together, eat, party,” she said. They also enjoy dressing up in period costume for the event.
Broadway said when residents planned a Christmas event for the city they wanted to give it a Victorian theme because of the city’s age. Someone suggested the city have a “Dickens of a Christmas,” and the name stuck, she said.
The city’s downtown will be the site of festivities Friday, when from 5 to 7 p.m. festival-goers can gather to take part in carriage rides, singing carols and visiting stores that host open houses during that time. Santa Claus also will make an appearance Friday night, Broadway said.
Breakfast is at Brown Street Education Center beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. The meal is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger. Mrs. Claus will be there for the meal, and Santa will stop by at 9:30 a.m. for photos.
Vendors will be set up in the school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and musical entertainment will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
