A Vine Grove man was arrested early Tuesday morning on a charge of first-degree sexual abuse involving a girl younger than 16.
David L. Shumake, 39, is accused of performing a sexual act on the teen in October at his Rose Creek Drive residence, according to a police citation. The girl reported an attack to Vine Grove police, who interviewed Shumake, according to a citation.
Police said Shumake reported he was “heavily intoxicated” and remembered “rubbing” the teenager’s back.
“(Shumake) was not certain that the incident did not occur and suspected that it had occurred,” the citation reads.
He is lodged at Hardin County Detention Center in lieu of a $5,000 cash bond.
Shumake was arraigned Tuesday via video feed in Hardin District Court and is scheduled to appear Dec. 19 for a preliminary hearing.
According to Kentucky Revised Statutes, first-degree sexual abuse is a Class D felony, which is punishable by one to five years in prison if convicted.
