According to Linda Funk, Warm Blessings Board chair, “The heart of Warm Blessings is committed volunteers with huge compassion for others and dedication to the program.” Funk estimates there are close to 140 volunteers contributing their time to the program each month either cooking, serving, mopping and cleaning up, driving the van, buying food, stocking and organizing food items, coordinating and directing other volunteers at meal time or delivering meals to seniors who are frail and shut-in.
Approximately 24 people volunteer various nights during the month cooking and preparing meals at Warm Blessings. Each weeknight a different cooking team of volunteers arrives by at least 2 p.m. to get meals started and serving begins at 5:30 p.m. with other folks arriving to serve and clean up.
Warm Blessings offers a hot meal weeknights to people struggling to stretch food dollars and also provides meal delivery to approximately 23 seniors who live alone are shut-in and who have become frail due to age and illness. Other services include use of a washer and dryer by appointment and showers for those in need. Blankets and sleeping bags are given out as are available, and personal items are regularly distributed as needed.
