In addition to serving hot meals weeknights to patrons who are struggling due to lost jobs, illness, and other issues relating to poverty, Warm Blessings has provided meal delivery on Mondays and Thursdays since September 2012 to seniors who are shut-in and frail because of age and illness and can’t prepare their meals. According to Linda Funk, Warm Blessings executive director, “There is a waiting list of seniors needing the service.” Funk said. Referrals first came from Lincoln Trail ADD but now are received from individuals, family members, home health agencies and doctors.” Funk said, “This is an under served need in our area and in addition to the 22 current volunteers more are needed.”
Volunteers deliver meals in their private vehicle to locations in or near Elizabethtown and must be willing to have a background check and provide copies of a valid driver’s license and insurance. A volunteer can deliver both on Monday and Thursday, but if their schedule only permits delivering one of those days, assignments are shared with other volunteers.
To volunteer, please call Warm Blessings, 270-763-9276, and for more information find Warm Blessings on Facebook, at www.warmblessingsinc.comor call 763-9276.
