A broken water main in Vine Grove has caused the city to be placed on a boiled water advisory Monday.
The water main broke at the corner of Oak Street and Ky. 144, likely because of the age of the line, City Clerk Jackie Johnson said.
That break at about 4 p.m. caused water loss that officials expected to last at least three hours. The water loss is from the broken main and other lines that have to be shut off while fixing it has affected much of the city, Johnson said.
Once water is restored, residents should boil water used in human consumption. A mass call is being sent to residents to inform them of the advisory, she said.
Issuing a boiled water advisory is a standard precautionary measure after a line break. It lasts typically about 24 hours, until a water sample can be tested by the state to be sure that it is safe for human consumption, she said.
Officials planned to issue a mass call to let residents know when the advisory is over.
