Residents buying water from Elizabethtown pay less than Hardin County Water District No. 2 customers. Should the city choose to sell its water system to Water District No. 2, the state Public Service Commission would require the district to have a common residential rate, which means rate increases.
General Manager James Jeffries said the district will petition the commission for smaller rate increases over several years. When systems merge, he said, the commission has allowed a transition period to bring rates in line gradually.
