White Mills

Terri Spencer, 270-862-4604

What an absolutely wonderful day last Sunday turned out to be. White Mills Baptist Church celebrated its 175th anniversary and more than 200 people showed up to help us celebrate such a huge milestone. Ron Lewis, one of our former pastors and a former U.S. Congressman, gave the message. He has not lost his touch. Our current pastor, Brother Bruce Underhill, honored the member who had been a member the longest, Olene Richardson. Olene joined the church and then left and then came back. The member who has had the longest continuous membership is Bettye Mae Raymer. The oldest member who was present was Delbert Love. The newest member of the church is Sharon Quinn. The youngest member is Seth Hay. Seth is 6 years old and was baptized this past year. It was so great to see so many people there who had moved away and came back. The service was followed by a potluck meal that was out of this world. My husband, Kenny, has decided to try his baking skills. He made a wonderful dish called vanilla surprise and some other dessert made with crescent rolls and cream cheese. He also made our famous banana pudding. Everyone kept telling me how great my desserts were and I did confess that Kenny made them. We even had tables outside to honor the old “dinner on the grounds” tradition. The weather was beautiful. I can’t wait until the next 175 years.

ANNIVERSARIES. Happy Anniversary to Howard and Gladys Buckles on Sept. 21. They will be married 56 years. It is so awesome to see marriages do last, especially when God is part of it. Congratulations. I hope that you have a blessed day.

BIRTHDAYS. Happy birthday to a beautiful young lady, Melanie Smith, on Sept. 24. Also on the Sept. 24, Zachary Sheetz will celebrate his birthday. Zach is such a wonderful young man and I love teaching him at church. On Sept. 25, Robie Richardson will celebrate his birthday. I would put in a picture of him, but he hates to have his picture taken. Happy birthday to all of you.
