White Mills

Terri Spencer, 862-4604

The cooler weather, the frost in the morning, the changing colors of the trees and the political ads, all let us know that autumn is here. But it’s ok, because in just a few more weeks the weather will be much colder, we’ll probably have snow, the trees will be bare and finally, wonderfully, the elections will be over. Be sure to vote.

BIRTHDAYS. Happy Birthday wishes go out to Braedon Bow, Rosemarie Hay and Wendy Jeiger. Another very special birthday wish goes out to Hilton Henderson. On Oct. 27, he will turn 90 years old. His family is planning a surprise 90th birthday party at Pritchard Community Center. It will be an open house from 3 to 5 pm. Please stop by and say hello. The family would also like for friends, family and neighbors to send or bring a birthday card. They are hoping to get at least 90. They would love to hear stories about Hilton when he was growing up here in White Mills. On behalf of myself and my family, happy, happy birthday Hilton. Have a wonderful day.

COMMUNITY NEWS. On Oct. 31, the community will hold a trunk or treat at the White Mills Community Ball Park. Dress up yourself, your kids and your car and come on down and give out candy and be a part of the fun. A couple of reminders about upcoming events, the annual community Thanksgiving dinner is at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Christian life center of White Mills Christian Church. Meats, mashed potatoes, gravy and rolls will be furnished. You are asked to bring salads, vegetables and desserts. Weather permitting, a ceremony officially re-opening the bridge will take place at 2 p.m. at the bridge. If raining, the ceremony will take place in the life center. A reception will follow for those who wish to stay. Make sure you keep Nov. 25 open for the Christmas parade, the chili supper and bridge lighting. More information will be coming as the time gets closer.

CHURCH NEWS. White Mills Baptist Church continues with revival this Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. with Chris Mills preaching. The youth will perform the specials and handling the service. Also today, we will go to Crawford farms pumpkin patch right after church. All are welcome to attend. Christmas Cantata practice continues this week at 5 p.m. today as well. Also, Nov. 3 is White Mills Baptist Church’s annual harvest homecoming chili supper and auction. Many, many new and homemade items will be up for sale, as well as gift certificates for local businesses and baskets full of goodies. Child care will be provided at no charge. The chili supper begins at 5:30 p.m. and the auction begins at approximately 6:15 p.m. Come on out and get a head start on your Christmas shopping.

SYMPATHY. Our sympathies go out to the family of Edith Dupin, who passed away this past week.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.  Please keep the following people in your thoughts and prayers that they may get well quickly, Malinda Sallee, Olene Richardson and Cheryl Richardson.
