Willis J. Woods, 93, a resident of Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born Sept. 6, 1918 in Estill County and was the son of the late John D. and Bertha Stevens Woods. He was a farmer and a retired foreman with the L&N Railroad. He was a member of the Irvine First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and lived in Estill County all of his life.
He also was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Pearlie Bea Henderson Woods; four sisters, Aileen Harrison, Mary Freeman, Alice Woods and Mattie Woods; and five brothers, Clarence, Lewis, O’Neal, Harold and Willie Woods.
He is survived by three daughters, Virginia Fike and her husband, Beverly Odell of Georgetown, Loretta Reynolds and her husband, Roy, of Radcliff and Mattie Ella Cooke and her husband, Orville, of Georgetown; one son, Billy Woods and his wife, Levena Joy, of Ravenna; one sister, Dovie Tuttle of Irvine; three brothers, Alfred Woods and his wife, Eva, of Meade County, Ambrose Woods of Irvine and Edgar Woods and his wife, Ruth, of Winchester; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral was Thursday, April 26, at Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel in Irvine with Brother David Cook officiating. Burial was in Woods Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Noland, Billy Ray Woods Jr., David Woods, Jeffery Fike, Jim Mau Sr. and Jim Mau Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Dylon Mau, Deven Mau, Darrell Wood and Harold Hall.
