National Weather Service expects freezing rain, sleet

Freezing rain and sleet forecast by the National Weather Service arrived in the area tonight. Ice accumulations will make travel hazardous.

Hardin and several neighboring counties are under a winter storm warning.

The latest update from the National Weather Service revises the timing of the storm but not details of the forecast. Light precipitation will begin across the warning area this evening and intensity will pick up tonight and continue into early Wednesday morning.

The storm is expected to bring as much as 1 to 2 inches of freezing rain and sleet locally. After midnight, some snow is expected.

The warning, which is in effect until 9 a.m. EST Wednesday, includes Hardin, LaRue, Grayson, Hart and Nelson counties.

Counties surrounding the warning area, including Meade and Breckinridge, are under a winter weather advisory because some freezing rain and sleet are possible there.

The advisory say the band of ice and sleet may shift and the NWS encourages residents to be alert to forecast changes.

Hardin and Nelson counties also remain under a flood warning issued because the Rolling Fork River is out of its banks in the Boston vicinity.
