The GFWC Kentucky Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown honors veterans in November as the nation celebrates Veterans Day.
Rich Griendling presented a slide presentation of the Veterans Tribute for the Nov. 2 club meeting program. The project has become a dream come true.
At the November meeting, club members brought personal items, deodorants and white socks to be delivered to veterans at the Veterans Hopsital in Louisville. Approximzately 300 paperback books also were taken to the hospital following the club meeting.
On Nov. 10, three club members, Cora Ellen Mckinley, Bobbie Dille and Betty Sue French attended a reception in honor of female veterans at the VA hospital in Louisville. They took a basket of homemade banana bread, muffins and jams to be used for a door prize.
On Nov. 11, numerous club members and their husbands attended the Hardin County Veterans Tribute dedication at the Elizabethtown Nature Park and observed the bricks that had been placed in honor of their military friends, husbands or relatives.
Another event on Veterans Day, club member Gloria Whitford made a special visit to Frances Walker at Kindred Healthcare Center in Elizabethtown.Walker is a female Navy veteran and one the club has honored for several years on Veterans Day. Whitford, who is a volunteer at the healthcare center, presents Walker a white bud vase filled with red roses and an American Flag.
Wreaths Across America is an annual observance of the Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown. Each year the club contributes in purchasing wreaths for distributing on veteran’s grave sites.
