Utility repairs force road closure on Dixie

By Marty Finley

A single-vehicle crash Monday night closed a portion of Dixie Avenue for several hours after police said a vehicle collided with a utility pole because the driver was intoxicated.

Elizabethtown Police Department responded to the crash 10:48 p.m. Officer Richard Dearborn, a crash reconstructionist with EPD, said an officer drove up on the crash as it was being called in to police.

The woman, whose name was not available Wednesday afternoon, was injured when her car flipped onto its top after colliding with the pole, Dearborn said. She was removed from the vehicle with the assistance of officers and transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released. Dearborn said she subsequently was charged with driving under the influence.

The affected portion of Dixie Avenue was closed for several hours into Tuesday morning as utility workers and contractors mobilized on scene to replace the heavily damaged pole, Dearborn said. The extent of damage raised concerns, he said, because of its potential to down power lines.
