The pickup’s driver, Dominique V. Passmore, 19, of Elizabethtown, was southbound on North Dixie Avenue when she attempted to make a right turn onto the road leading to the rear of Movie Palace, Elizabethtown police said.

Police spokesman Virgil Willoughby said Passmore was driving too fast as she took the turn. The driver attempted to brake, but for unknown reasons, the vehicle accelerated instead, causing the driver to lose control, Willoughby said.

The Elizabethtown Police Department was called to the business at 1300 N. Dixie Ave. at 11:16 a.m. Monday.

Passmore does not have a driver’s license and was operating a vehicle with which she was not familiar, Willoughby said.

No injuries were reported, according to police. However,Willoughby said significant damage was done to the rental company’s building.

The pickup truck crashed through the business’ bay doors before knocking a hole in the building’s concrete back wall.

The News-Enterprise contacted the Hertz location Monday afternoon but was referred to the rental car company’s corporate office for comments.

Willoughby said Passmore will be summoned to Hardin District Court for operating without a driver’s license.
