Car overturns before coming to rest in a creek, sheriff reports

CLARKSON — On the evening of her 42nd birthday, a Leitchfield woman’s car ran off U.S. 62 in Grayson County, overturned several times and hit a tree before coming to rest on its hood in a creek. She was found dead the next morning.

After examining Katherine Dixon’s body, Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson recorded time of death as between 1 and 3 a.m. CDT Tuesday. It’s not clear when the wreck occurred or how long the car was undetected before it was reported to police at 6:15 a.m.

Authorities said Monday night Dixon left a residence in Big Clifty and was headed west toward her home on Main Street in Leitchfield. The car was found near Clarkson in the 5500 block of Elizabethtown Road, U.S. 62, according to Grayson County Sheriff Rick Clemons.

Hudsonsaid he found no evidence of alcohol use at the scene. Dixon’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Louisville where an autopsy is scheduled to be performed today.
