Woman shot in her Flaherty home

A 51-year-old Flaherty resident was arrested and accused of shooting his estranged wife.

Kentucky State Police report that Jackie Cook surrendered after a brief standoff with police and was taken into custody Friday without incident. He is charged with attempted murder related to domestic violence. According to police, additional charges may be filed.

Magdalena Cook, 47, was shot at 2260 Rabbit Run Road in the Flaherty community and ran to a neighbor's home for help. She was transported by helicopter to University Hospital in Louisville with gunshot wounds to both legs, police said. She's listed in stable condition.

The Meade County Sheriff's Office requested KSP's assistance after being alerted to the shooting at 3:08 p.m. Friday. Also assisting were the Muldraugh Police Department and Meade County EMS.

KSP Detective Jonathan Vaughn is leading the investigation.
