By KELLY RICHARDSON firstname.lastname@example.org ELIZABETHTOWN — Cora Wood, assistant superintendent of secondary instruction for Elizabethtown Independent Schools, announced her resignation Monday to the EIS board. Wood said after 36 years in education and three years at EIS, she wanted to focus on other areas of her personal life, including her involvement in her church, Severns Valley Baptist Church. “I have a real longing to spend a little time in other areas,” she said. With Wood’s departure, the board voted to amend a few job descriptions and create some new positions. Kelly Graham, the assistant superintendent of elementary instruction, will become the K-12 instructional supervisor. Her duties will remain largely the same, but now she will oversee instruction of all grades, Superintendent John Millay said. The board also voted to create two part-time positions within the district — an assistant principal position for academics at Elizabethtown High School and a director of personnel position at the district’s Central Office. Wood had been in charge of personnel in her previous role and had worked in the high school this school year to provide support to the interim principal, Charles Broughton. She also had served as interim principal. Wood has applied for the director of personnel position, since she expressed an interest in her resignation letter to work in a part-time capacity. That position, along with the assistant principal position, were posted Wednesday and will be for 30 days, Millay said. “It should help to streamline our operations,” he said of the position changes. The changes will also save the district about $10,000 in salary money, Millay said at the meeting. Millay said Wood was a tremendous asset to the district. “She’s the ultimate professional,” he said. He said he’s excited that she’s interested in staying with the district. Kelly Richardson can be reached at (270) 505-1747.
