A Radcliff school administrator is staying in the northern end of the county as she takes on a leadership role in Hardin County Schools.
Dawn Tarquinio has been hired as the new principal of Woodland Elementary School. Tarquinio is the assistant principal of Meadow View Elementary School and begins her new position Sept. 12.
Tarquinio said the similarities of the two schools, which are just minutes from each other in Radcliff, was appealing to her in taking the new position.
“Woodland families are just like Meadow View families,” she said.
Before becoming assistant principal at Meadow View, she served as a highly skilled educator for the Kentucky Department of Education. It was from that position that she knew she wanted to be a principal and help teachers and students be their best, she said.
“I knew that was a good a fit for me,” she said.
Tarquinio said Woodland has a reputation for having a family atmosphere, and she wants the school to continue to be a “happy place” for teachers and students to be every day.
She also wants to “continue the tradition of academic success there,” she said. This is a good time to start, she said, because Kentucky schools are going through a lot of changes with new standards and a new state assessment.
“I’m incredibly excited to take this on,” she said.
Before she served as a highly skilled educator, she worked as an elementary school teacher in Jefferson County for 16 years.
Tarquinio replaces Teresa Morgan, who now works at HCS’ Central Office.
