With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night, LaSteven Cleaver came through in the clutch for the Elizabethtown Area Baseball Commission’s 11-year-old All-Stars.
Cameron Smith reached on an error and Bradley Lackey singled before both moved up on a double steal. After Nolan Francis was walked, Cleaver singled to drive in Smith for a 5-4 win at LaRue County Park in Hodgenville.
Spencer Brandenburg chipped in with two singles and two runs, while Smith singled and scored twice. Francis singled, scored and drove in a run, while Dennis Bowen added an RBI single.
Francis earned the win after striking out five in 2 1/3 innings of relief of Cleaver, who didn’t give up a hit in three innings.
Chase Childress and Dailiss Cox each singled and scored for LaRue County, while Kaleb Graham singled.
Wyatt Pearman and Aaron Adams each scored a run.
Both teams move on to the West Kentucky Cal Ripken State Tournament, which begins today at Skyview Park in Jeffersontown.
EABC 9, LARUE COUNTY 8. Evan Shelton singled to drive in Andrew Dawson in the bottom of the sixth inning, lifting EABC past tournament host LaRue County.
Shelton finished with three singles and two RBIs, while Ryder Gregory had two singles, a double, two RBIs and two runs. Dawson chipped in with three singles and two runs, and Adam Hobbs had three singles and a run.
Jackson Clark singled, doubled and drove in a run, Andrew Hobbs had two singles and two RBIs, Jordan Price had two singles and two runs and Cyrus Lewis had two singles and an RBI.
Hendrix Thomas added two singles and an RBI and Kaden Williams had two singles and a run.
No statistics were available for LaRue County.
Both teams advance to the state tournament, which begins today at the Elizabethtown Sports Park.
