YOUTH BASEBALL: State tourneys set to begin today (07/10)

The West Kentucky Cal Ripken State Tournaments get started tonight with games in seven divisions.

Two age groups – the 8 year olds and 10 year olds – will be held at the Elizabethtown Sports Park.

Three teams from District 7 – Elizabethtown, Meade County and LaRue County – are in the 16-team field.

Teams are divided into four four-team pools. Elizabethtown is in Pool B with Jeffersontown, Breckinridge County and Edmonson County. Meade County is in Pool C with St. Matthews, Prairie Village and Hancock County. LaRue County is in Pool D with Fern Creek, Germantown and Owensboro-Daviess.

LaRue County takes on Fern Creek at 6 tonight on Field 7 at the Sports Park. Elizabethtown plays Jeffersontown at 6 p.m. Thursday on Field 7, while Meade County faces Hancock County at 8 Thursday night on Field 8.

On Friday, Elizabethtown meets Edmonson County at 3 p.m. on Field 8, LaRue County plays Owensboro-Daviess at 9 on Field 7 and Meade County plays Prairie Village at 9 on Field 8.

Pool play wraps up Saturday. Elizabethtown plays Breckinridge County at 9 a.m. on Field 7, LaRue County meets Germantown at 1 p.m. on Field 7 and Meade County faces St. Matthews at 3 p.m. on Field 8.

The top three teams from each pool move on to the single-elimination tournament, which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday.

Elizabethtown and Meade County are in the 15-team field at Jackie B. Browning Park in Glasgow.

EABC is in Pool B with Jeffersontown and Scottsville. Blue Lick was the fourth team in the pool before dropping out of the tournament. EABC faces Jeffersontown at 5 p.m. Friday and Scottsville at noon Saturday.

Meade County is in Pool A with Owensboro East, Prairie Village and East Louisville. Meade County plays Prairie Village at 7 tonight, East Louisville at 3 p.m. Friday and Owensboro East at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The top two teams from each pool advance to the single-elimination tournament, which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. The championship is set for 5 p.m. Sunday.

EABC Red is in Pool A with Blue Lick, Owensboro East and Scottsville, Meade County is in Pool B with Green County, Jeffersontown and Breckinridge County, EABC Blue is in Pool C with Henderson County, Prairie Village and Cumberland County, and LaRue County is in Pool D with Grayson County, Hikes Point and Germantown.

EABC Red faces Blue Lick at 6 p.m. Thursday on Field 5, Scottsville at 7 p.m. Friday on Field 6 and Owensboro East at 1 p.m. Saturday on Field 5. EABC Blue plays Cumberland County at 6 tonight on Field 5, Henderson County at 5 p.m. Friday on Field 6 and Prairie Village at 3 p.m. Saturday on Field 5.

LaRue County takes on Hikes Point at 8 p.m. Thursday on Field 6, Grayson County at 5 p.m. Friday on Field 6 and Germantown at 1 p.m. Saturday on Field 6. Meade County plays Jeffersontown at 6 tonight on Field 6, Breckinridge County at 7 p.m. Friday on Field 5 and Green County at 9 a.m. Saturday on Field 5.

The District 7 champion will be in Pool B with Jeffersontown and Okolona, while the district runner-up is in Pool C with Prairie Village and St. Matthews.

EABC or LaRue County plays Okolona at 4 p.m. today and Jeffersontown and 8 p.m. Thursday. EABC or LaRue County plays St. Matthews at 4 p.m. Thursday and Prairie Village at 6 p.m. Friday.

Each team moves on to the single-elimination tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. The championship is set for 30 minutes after the second semifinal game.

In the nine-team, double-elimination tournament in Henderson, EABC takes on Owensboro-Daviess County at 7 tonight at Joe Gabe Field and Meade County faces Marshall County at 9:30 on Bill Heath Field.

The winner’s bracket semifinals are 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with the winner’s bracket final set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The consolation bracket starts at 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Two games will be played at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and 4 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The consolation bracket semifinal is 4 p.m. Sunday, with the final at 6:30. The title games are set for 7 and 9:30 p.m. (if necessary) Monday.

Meade County is the only area team in the seven-team, double-elimination tournament in Henderson.

Meade County will face Owensboro-Daviess County or Warren County at 9 p.m. Friday. The winner’s bracket is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, with the title games scheduled for 7 and 9:30 (if necessary) Monday night.
