The Blue Rose
Like Elizabethtown, the city of Vine Grove has seen a recent revitalization in its downtown area. New businesses have recently opened in downtown Vine Grove and a monthly festival now takes place in the summer to highlight these businesses.
One of the key figures in the center of these developments is Daryn-Rose King, 33, owner of Vine Grove boutique The Blue Rose. The business offers a variety of clothing designed by King.
“I love comfort that actually looks good,” King said of her products. “I’ve always made sure to use the highest quality, super-soft clothing that is also flattering.”
The Blue Rose started in 2016 out of King’s Vine Grove home. King sold clothing through the business’s online Etsy shop and at community festivals and events before a brick and mortar location opened in downtown Vine Grove in 2018.
“Vine Grove is my home and watching the downtown area come back to life has been a dream come true,” King said. “This small city is a true gem. It’s a wonderful place to have family but it has so much room to grow. I’m beyond thrilled to be a part of that growth.”
That same year, King helped establish Rail Side Shops, a committee of downtown Vine Grove businesses. The committee helped establish First Friday, a monthly event in downtown Vine Grove designed to promote commerce in the area.
First Friday typically features live music, food vendors, giveaways from local businesses and more. The event takes place on the first Friday of June, July and August and features a unique theme each month.
“Events are essential to a small town,” King said. “The sense of community is so much stronger in a town like Vine Grove and we really needed more places to showcase that.”
King said though maintaining a small business comes with challenges, the benefits have greatly outweighed them.
“The sense of accomplishment in starting something from the ground up and watching it flourish is unlike any other success I’ve had,” King said.
King lives with her husband, Kristofor, and they have two sons and a daughter on the way. In their free time, King’s family enjoys participating in community sports, traveling and going to the movies.
