Elizabethtown-Hardin-LaRue Retired Teachers Association members gathered May 16 at the Early College and Career Center for the last meeting of the school year.
Following a tradition, the group paused to remember those retirees who have passed away during the past year. Presented by Elaine Alicna, Becky Davis and Joyce Miller, a memorial service to honor 21 retirees was observed. Joey Brown provided a musical tribute.
Patti Mayhew shared the need for volunteers to work with CASA, explaining CASA volunteers work with family court judges Brent Hall and Pam Addington and there is a waiting list of children who need advocates.
Julia Richardson gave an inspirational moment by reading the teacher-written job description of a teacher, “I Make a Difference.”
Brad Mertens indicated progress is being made on repairs for the one-room school at Freeman Lake.
EHLRTA was well represented at the recent KRTA meeting. Congratulations were extended to Bill Kelley, who was elected vice-president of KRTA. He will serve as president of the organization in 2021-22.
Officers for the new year are President Sue French, President-elect Bob Krasman, Vice-President Diane Glenn, Secretary Cherie Mingus and Treasurer Donna Carteer. Carla Wallace is the immediate past-president.
The next meeting is Sept. 19.
