The Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown held its first meeting of 2019-20 the first Friday of September. Prior to the meeting, club members enjoyed refreshments prepared by members Jo Griffith and Mary Woods. New President, Pat Howell presided over the meeting. Jean Davis gave the devotional.

Second Vice-President Linda Luckett introduced guest speaker, coordinator of Solid Waste and Recycling for Hardin County, Stephanie Givens. Givens gave members facts about waste products and said she wished we could do more recycling in Hardin County than we do, but we do not have a total recycling center or the funding for it. Facts included a leather shoe takes 600 years to decay; disposable baby diapers take 500-600 years to decay and Styrofoam cups never will decay. The club discussed the upcoming major fundraiser for the year, the Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown annual Harvest Breakfast. The breakfast is from 7 to 11 a.m. Oct. 19 at Pritchard Community Center. First Vice-President Jerisia Lamons is the chairperson for the event. Tickets can be purchased from any member, adults, $8, and children, $4, plus tax.

The club’s next meeting is the first Friday in October.
