  • Bakken graduates from U.S. Army Air Assault School

    BAKKEN. Joshua P. Bakken graduated from the U.S. Army Air Assault School at Fort Campbell. A 2013 graduate of North Hardin High School, he is the son of Dean and Peri Bakken of Rineyville. He will attend Georgia Military College in Milledgville.

  • 3rd ESC celebrates women’s equality

    The 3rd Sustainment Command Expeditionary hosted its Women’s Equality Day Observance on Aug. 26 at the Saber and Quill at Fort Knox. The event was held to honor and pay tribute to the women who fought to create equal rights and to celebrate the passing of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting woman the right to vote.

  • Waggoners celebrate 60th anniversary

    Brother Gene and Janie Waggoner of Elizabethtown will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 30, 2013.

    They were married in 1953 at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland, KY.

    Brother Waggoner is a retired pastor and served Stithton Baptist Church in Radcliff for 35 years before retiring in 1996. He also is a Korean War veteran.

    Mrs. Waggoner retired from Radcliff Middle School in 1996.

  • Burg celebrates 95th birthday

    Sylvester Burg of Elizabethtown, formerly of New Holstein, Wis., will celebrate his 95th birthday today, Aug. 30, 2013, the same day as his 50th wedding anniversary.

    He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Fond du Lac, Wis.

    He joined the Army in 1942. He was in World War II in New Guinea and the Korean War. He retired from the Army after 26 years and then worked in civil service. After his second retirement, he and his wife Rosa volunteered at the Salvatorian Missions Warehouse in New Holstein, Wis.

  • Burgs celebrate 50th anniversary

    Sylvester and Rosa Burg of Elizabethtown, formerly of New Holstein, Wis., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today, Aug. 30, 2013.

    They were married in Grosslangheim, Germany, on Aug. 30, 1963.

    Mr. Burg retired from the Army after 26 years.

    Mrs. Burg was a homemaker.

    They did volunteer work at the Salvatorian Missions Warehouse in New Holstein for 14 years.

    They have three daughters, Sylvia of Williamsburg, Va., Pam of Vine Grove and Ingrid of Germany, and one grandson.

    The August meeting yielded a great turn out of members. Those who attended were treated to light refreshments provided by hostesses Jana Gore, Rosemary Hedges and Danielle Hethcox.

    A discussion of tree landscaping, led by John Effinger of Frank Otte Nursery, followed.

  • Northern Hardin County Democratic Women’s Club members gather for August meeting

    The August meeting of the Northern Hardin County Democratic Women featured U.S. Congressman John Yarmuth, who discussed facts concerning current legislation. Notice of his participation led to one of the largest crowds, nearly 150, at the club’s events in the past several years.
