  • Coogles celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Russell Jr. and Christina Kirkman Coogle of Cecilia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 10, 2013, with a surprise reception given by their children and grandchildren. They renewed their vows in a ceremony performed by the Rev. Gerald Wallace, followed by the surprise dinner reception.

    They were married Nov. 16, 1963, in Indianapolis.

  • Tractor pull raises money for breast cancer

    The second-annual Burger King Breast Cancer Truck and Tractor Pull raised $19,365.27 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in the fight against breast cancer on Oct. 11 and 12 at the Hardin County Fairgrounds.  

    Organizers said drivers and fans came together from as far away as California for the fundraiser. The event originated from a conversation that began more than three years ago when Beth Stinnett suggested a tractor pull fundraiser for breast cancer research to her father, Tim Hornback. His wife Carolyn Hornback continues her 14-year battle with the disease.

  • Hill wins award with Civil War quilt

    Mary Lois Hill, member of the Stitchers’ Quilt Guild, shows her Civil War Tribute Quilt that recently won the Viewers’ Choice Award for bed-size quilts at the 2013 Heartland of Kentucky Quilt Show. The king-sized quilt was machine pieced and hand quilted by Hill.
