  • Jacksons celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Jerry and Glenda Smitson Jackson of Elizabethtown will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 19, 2011.

    They were married Aug. 19, 1961, in English Christian Church in English, Ind., by the Rev. Virgil Farringer.

    They both are retired and are members of Northside Baptist Church.

    They have two sons, Troy Jackson of Grapevine, Texas, and Dr. Thad Jackson of Elizabethtown; and four grandchildren.

    To celebrate the occasion their sons and families presented them with a cruise to Alaska.

  • Parents welcome Melia Dale

     

    Michael and Celia Medley of Big Springs announce the birth of a daughter, Melia Dale Medley, on June 29, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 8 pounds, 5 ½ ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Grandparents are Mike Hubbard of Guston, Debbie Lindsey of Louisville, and Larry and Elaine Medley of Vine Grove.

    Great-grandparents are Edwin and Faye Hubbard of Guston, Charlie and Peggy Jenkins of Brandenburg and G.D. and Rosie Medley of Vine Grove; and great-great-grandmother is Anna Wathen of Vine Grove.

    Erin Cantwell of Fort Myers, Fla., and Buddy Bonollo of Cape Coral, Fla., were married June 18, 2011, at Sandals Resort La Toc Golf Resort and Spa in Castries, St. Lucia.

    The bride is the daughter of Terry and Carol Cantwell of Radcliff.

    The groom is the son of Kent and Faye Bonollo of Creedmoor, N.C.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father.

    After a wedding trip in St. Lucia, the couple reside in Cape Coral.

    Terriance Y. Hamilton of Ozark, Ala., and Joyce Garrett of Brooklyn, N.Y., were married July 30, 2011, at their home in Elizabethtown by the Rev. Dr. Kevin W. Cosby.

    The bride is the daughter of Evamae Garrett of Brooklyn.

    The groom is the son of Shirley Mae Hamilton of Ozark.

    Musician was Hey Mr. DJ.

    A reception was held at the couple’s home in Elizabethtown.

    After a wedding trip to Orlando the couple reside in Elizabethtown.

    Bill and Carla Sallee and Gary and Trish Meyers, all of Elizabethtown, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Carman Marie Meyers of Elizabethtown, to William Allen Blackburn of Elizabethtown, son of Jeff and Elizabeth Blackburn of Lexington.

  • 4-HERS SHINE AT COUNTY FAIR

    While it may seem like only a distant memory to some, the blue ribbons and champion honors presented at the 2011 Hardin County Fair will live forever in the hearts of many Hardin County Youth. 4-Hers exhibited everything from plants, bird houses, peanut butter cookies, pictures, rabbits, goats, dogs, cattle, sheep and much, much more.

    I cannot say enough about the support from local volunteers who help make all of this possible. 4-H volunteers take time from their already busy schedules to share their knowledge and help put a smile on many Hardin County youth.

  • Hoadley graduates from Army ROTC training course

    HOADLEY. Kody W. Hoadley has graduated from the Army ROTC Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Wash. A 2008 graduate of Central Hardin High School in Cecilia, he attends Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. He is the son of Kathy Hoadley of Elizabethtown.

  • Guthrie and P’Pool to speak at HCRWC meeting

    Congressman Brett Guthrie will be the keynote speaker at the Hardin County Republican Women’s Club meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at Nolin RECC. Guthrie was elected congressman for Kentucky’s Second District in November 2008. He is in his first term in Congress, and serves on the Committee on Education and Labor and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Additionally, he is the ranking Republican member of the Subcommittee on Higher Education.
