    Hello friends, I hope all of you are doing well this week. There is not much going on right now. There are some bazaars coming up.

    County Critters Homemakers bazaar is Nov. 15 and 16 at Rough Creek Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome. There will be chili, soups, sandwiches, and lots of others item. Come out and support them. This is their big fundraiser of the year.

    Hope everyone got their extra hour of sleep last weekend, I am glad we have gone back to the slower time frame. I guess the daylight savings time is an advantage to those who have to get up and go to work at a public job. That way they can get home earlier in the afternoon, to get some chores done at home, such as mowing their lawn, working the garden or whatever needs to be done during the daylight hours.

  • Thompson celebrates 90th birthday

    Rex Thompson of Vine Grove celebrated his 90th birthday on Oct. 13, 2013, with family and friends.

    He was born Oct. 13, 1923.

    He is a World War II veteran and retired from civil service at Fort Knox in 1987. He is an elder at Vine Grove Christian Church.

    He is married to Mildred Thompson.

    He has two sons, Kevin and Keith Thompson; two stepdaughters, Debbie Jones and Stacy Martin; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

    Thomas and Stephanie Brothers of Cecilia announce the birth of a son, Asher Thomas Brothers, on Aug. 9, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    His brothers are Caleb Young and Camden Brothers.

    Maternal grandparents are Jeffrey and Phyllis Richardson of Big Clifty; and paternal grandmother is Mary Brothers of Leitchfield.

    Great-grandparents are Roland and Kathryn Richardson of Summit and Rollin Beauchamp of Leitchfield and the late Mayme Beauchamp.

    John and Lindsey Witten of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a daughter, Melody Ruth Witten, on Oct. 9, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 17.5 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Larry and Gwen Lane of Riceville, Tenn. Paternal grandparents are Danny and Darlene Witten of Elizabethtown.

    Great-grandparents are Charles and Ruth Murphree of Unionville, Tenn., Nola Jean Lane of Riceville and the late Dewey Lane, the late John and June Carpenter and the late Thurman and Mary Witten.

  • Ramos graduates from basic combat training

    RAMOS. Army Pvt. Andrew J. Ramos has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

    Ramos is the son of Felix Ramosrosario of Rineyville and Lorri Ramos of Colorado Springs, Colo.

    He is a 2012 graduate of Killeen High School in Texas.

  • Oller graduates basic infantry training

    OLLER. Army Private Clayton L. Oller has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.

    Oller is the son of Doug Oller of Vine Grove and Donna Williams of LaGrange.

    He is a 2012 graduate of Oldham County High School in Buckner.

  • Garden Club of Elizabethtown members welcome Lisa Rhoads

    The Garden Club of Elizabethtown has had a busy six weeks of activities. The October meeting was well attended and members heard guest speaker Lisa Rhoads, VNA Nazareth Home Care, talk about types of exercises to warm up before working in their gardens. The Garden Club of Elizabethtown and the Potted Few Garden Club of Fort Knox hosted the Annual Dogwood District Meeting on Oct. 8 at Severns Valley Baptist Church.
