  • CKAG selects John Butler “Artist of the Month”

    At the July 18h meeting of the Central Kentucky Art Guild, John Butler was selected by the attendees as Artist of the Month. The theme for July was “Open,” and his painting was entitled “Artificial Flowers”. The painting is presently hanging at the Cobbler Café in downtown Elizabethtown. The next meeting of the CKAG is at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 15 at the Nolin RECC building on Ring Road.

  • FOP presents scholarships

    On Aug. 4, at the Fraternal Order of Police, William R. Burns Memorial Lodge No. 39 in Radcliff, the first scholarships of the Richard “Mac” Michaelis Scholarship Fund were awarded to two deserving young people. Meghan A. DeAmaral a 2011 graduate of Fort Knox High School, who is pursuing a law degree and Jimmy A. Shirley III, a 2011 graduate of Larue County High School who is pursuing a degree in law enforcement.

  • Bells celebrate 50th anniversary

    The Rev. Vaudie Bell Jr. and Mary Bell will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today, Aug. 12, 2011.
    They were married Aug. 12, 1961, at the home of the Rev. Earl and Elizabeth Sanders by the Rev. Earl Sanders.
    The Rev. Bell retired from Marley Cooling Towers in Louisville and Mrs. Bell retired from Gates Rubber Company in Elizabethtown.
    The couple are members of Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church in Clarkson. The Rev. Bell pastors at Blue Lick Missionary Church in Brooks.

  • Buckmans celebrate 50th anniversary

    Leslie (Tommy) and Anna Whelan Buckman will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today, Aug. 12, 2011, with their family.
    They were married Aug. 12, 1961, at St. Martin of Tours Church in Flaherty by the Rev. Paul Russell.
    Both are retired from civil service at Fort Knox.
    They have two children, Pam McCombs and Mike Buckman; four grandchildren; and one grandson is deceased.

  • Fegley-Bogue

    Trista Marie Fegley and Brock Tyler Bogue announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Richard and Erica Fegley of Radcliff.
    The prospective groom is the son of John and Regina Bogue of Elizabethtown.
    The wedding is at 1 p.m., Aug. 13, 2011, at Glendale Christian Church in Glendale with a reception to follow at Pritchard Community Center.

  • Hosparus event raises awareness and boosts donations

    The Hosparus Thrift Shoppe recently hosted a Back to School Fashion Show at its Helmwood Plaza location. A dozen models ranging in age from six to 17 sported the latest styles. With name brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Guess, these threads were cool enough for the most discerning young wardrobe.

    Members of the Hardin County Democratic Woman’s Club attended the Summer Board Meeting of the Democratic Woman’s Club of Kentucky on July 30 at Centre College in Danville. President Debbie Donnelly, second vice-president Dorothy Leonard and secretary Becky Bishop were in attendance at the meeting.

  • Youth spend afternoon sprucing up Warm Blessings

    Northside Baptist youth spent an afternoon at Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen pulling weeds, sweeping, and weed eating to spruce up the outside area. They also sorted canned food and checked cans for dates and dents as part of a mission project.   • Local Fundraiser Raises $7,000 For Kosair Charities

    A hay ride, inflatable slide and balloon animals were among the 20 kids’ activities provided July 30 by the Kosair Kids Softball Tournament.

    While 12 softball teams competed for a trophy bearing the Kosair Charities logo at Dawley Park in Radcliff, children enjoyed a kids’ fair on the adjoining soccer fields.  Bryce Shumate of the Radcliff Police Department, was in attendance for the second year with the city-owned Bounce House and Party Plus of Elizabethtown donated multiple carnival games to add to the festivities.
