  • Scouts conduct flag retirement ceremony

    Members of Boy Scout Troop 221 and Venture Crew 221 retire 20 U.S. flags at the Central Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery-Central in Radcliff. The ceremony included a brief reminder of the importance of respect for the American flag, a remembrance of those who have given their lives in defense of our nation and a moment of silence in memorial.

  • Greenspace group walks Pirtle Trail

    Doug and Janet Gebler, left, with Greenspace President, Aaron Rucker, left rear, in attendance, lead about 12 Greenspace supporters through Greenspace’s Pirtle Trail to look for wildflowers on April 6. Because of cold and rainy March weather, only about a half-dozen native wildflowers were up for viewing. Board members and guests comprised the balance of the group. Greenspace Trails, located throughout Hardin County, are free and open to the public.  

  • Atria residents Skype with elementary school students

     

    The residents at Atria Elizabethtown invited students in a third-grade class at Southwestern Elementary School in Hanover, Ind., to Skype with them. The students and residents were asked to come up with a questions for each other. Atria resident Doris Pile had 14 fellow residents in her apartment to participate in the program. This was the first time any of the residents have been exposed to Skype.

  • Dugginses celebrate 71st anniversary

    Robert and Mary Duggins of Elizabethtown celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary Easter Sunday, April 7, 2013, with family.

    They were married April 7, 1942.

    They have two children, Ann Duggins Schell and Bobby Duggins, both of Louisville; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

  • Fred celebrates 90th birthday

    Louise Fred of Elizabethtown will celebrate her 90th birthday May 4, 2013, with her family.

    She was born May 4, 1923. She was married to the late Roger Lee Fred for 64 years and is a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.

    She has two children, Rogerlyn Shaw of Spring Hill, Fla., and Johnnie Wayne Fred of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

    Kevin Abdul DeVeaux and Shikina Latrice Jackson were married April 6, 2013, at Best Western-Atrium Gardens in Elizabethtown by Bishop Wilhelmina Jackson.

    The bride is the daughter of the late Billie Marie Jackson.

    The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Errol DeVeaux of Radcliff.

    The bride was given in marriage by her son, Aikem Jubar Jackson. Matron of honor was Teri Jackson.

    Best man was Maleek Moody-DeVeaux, son of the groom, and ushers were Tony Jackson and LaDarius Jackson.

We were at Child Evangelism Fellowship headquarters and the dedication and passion of the people who work and volunteer there is nothing short of amazing. The youth who went with us worked very hard and never complained. That in itself was a blessing.
