Hardin County Branch National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s 20th annual freedom fund Banquet is at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 27, at the Fort Knox Leader’s Club. The keynote speaker will be University of Kentucky Associate Professor of History Dr. Gerald L. Smith Pd.D. The theme for the banquet is “Moving Forward Uniting Our Community: What is your Assignment?”

The Fort Knox Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) met June 21 at its clubhouse on Fort Knox. The prime agenda item for the meeting was to conduct the installation of the commander and his staff for the 2011-12 chapter year. Capt. William Dibble, the Department commander, presided. Installed were Lt. Col. Toby Martinez, commander; Lt. Col. Lawrence Herzog, adjutant; and Lt. Col. Richard Ardisson, treasurer. The two vice commanders, Col. Dale Stewart and Col. John Smith, will be installed at the next meeting.

The Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown recently presented donations to several different organizations in the community.
