  • Williams celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Paul and Edna Essex Williams, of Elizabethtown, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 5 p.m., April 13, 2013, at Union Christian Church Fellowship Hall.

    They were married April 12, 1963, by the Rev. CC Omer at his residence in Hodgenville.

    Mr. Williams is the son of the late Albert and Hallie Williams. He retired from Dow Corning in 1999 and is an active member of the Valley Creek Fire Department. He also is a deacon at Union Christian Church.

  • Green speaks at Women’s Network meeting

    The Women’s  Network of Greater Hardin County had Glenda Green as their guest speaker during their most recent monthly meeting.

    Green is a human rights specialist with the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights. She also serves as the Commission’s training coordinator and lead trainer for sexual harassment. She has been with the commission for 12 years as a member of the Education and Outreach Department.

  • Garden Club celebrates anniversary

    The Garden Club of Elizabethtown is beginning it’s 41st  year. The club extends it’s emphasis on community awareness and involvement in many ways. The club is active in Habitat for Humanity, Greenspace, Let’s Spruce Up and the Hardin County Public Library. 

  • 6-4 Cavalry Regiment to case colors

    Troops of the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team will case their colors during a ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday at Brooks Field at Fort Knox.

    The ceremony is a tradition that signals the unit’s readiness for its upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

  • No Ordinary Spouse Day set

    No Ordinary Spouse Day II, consisting of the Engagement Skill Trainer, obstacle course/litter carry and rappelling, is from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday April 12 near Smith Physical Fitness Center. The event is open to all military spouses and Department of Defense spouses of the Fort Knox community. The intent of No Ordinary Spouse Day is developing a day that is motivational and fun and builds esprit de corps.

    Spouses interested in participating should contact their unit’s point of contact for a registration form. Each unit has allocated slots.

  • Snider graduates from basic training

    SNIDER. Private 1st Class Erin Nicole Snider, 18, of Elizabethtown, graduated from U.S. Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., on March 15.

    While in training Private 1st Class Snider achieved the rifle marksmanship badge. Following 10 days home on leave, she will report to Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, N.C., for one month of military combat training, then to Military Occupation Specialty school in California.

    Snider is the daughter of Christy R. Snider of Elizabethtown and the late Neil W. Snider.
