  • Delta Kappa Gamma members gather for March meeting

    Mu Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met March 9. Becky Bishop and Kim Shumate, co-chairs of the professional affairs committee, conducted the silent auction of pretty things, which included bunnies, an original painting, candy, scarves, teapots, linens and other items. Donations and bidding provided funds for a grant-in-aid to be given to a high school senior.

    Nora Sweat shared a moment of inspiration reminding members that Easter is a time to share memories, food and family time; however, the real celebration is the resurrection of Christ.

  • Kentucky 4-H Homecoming set for April 20

    The Kentucky 4-H Homecoming, the annual signature event for the Kentucky 4-H Foundation, is at 6 p.m. April 20, at The Hilton Garden Inn in Georgetown.

    This annual event reconnects former 4-Hers with each other, 4-H alumni, as well as with friends, volunteers, and supporters of Kentucky 4-H.

    “The first two 4-H homecomings were huge successes and we expect this year’s event to be even more successful,” said Keith L. Rogers, executive director of the Kentucky 4-H Foundation.

    Roger and Marchitta Lucas of Cecilia and Les-Tom and Anita Sandfer of Stephensburg announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children, Halea Brooke Lucas of Cecilia and Eddie Dewayne Sandfer of Stephensburg.

    The bride-to-be is a 2006 graduate of Central Hardin High School.

    The prospective groom also is a 2006 graduate of Central Hardin High School.

    The wedding is at 3:30 p.m. March 30, 2013, at Open Valley Baptist Church with a reception to follow at Pritchard Community Center.

  • Jey Gregory wins DAR American History Essay Contest

    Jey Gregory, a seventh-grader from T. K. Stone Middle School, was the specialguest of the Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on March 15 at the Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown.

    Jey was honored as the chapter winner of the DAR American History Essay Contest. Jey received a certificate, bronze “Excellence in American History” medal and a gift certificate from Barnes and Noble. His essay will advance to state competition.

  • Conders displays quilt at Stichers meeting

    Janice Conder shows a small wall hanging quilt made for a friend with pictures of his cars transferred to fabric during show and tell at the Stitchers Quilt Guild meeting. The Stitchers meet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. the last Wednesday of the month at The Hardin County Extension Office in Elizabethtown.
