  • Tamayo wins Brevard music competition

    Kelsey Tamayo, a 2007 graduate of John Hardin High School, attended the 2012 Brevard Summer Music Festival in Brevard, N.C. Tamayo won the 2011 Brevard Jan and Beattie Wood Young Artist Concerto Competition, which included a full scholarship for the 2012 Brevard Summer Music Festival. Her summer residency included performances with the Brevard Sinfonia, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, marimba solo performances at the pre-concert opening season, a flute and marimba duet ensemble and the 2012 Premier Brevard Composer Concert Percussion Trio “ Too Many Cooks”.

  • Pack 134 goes camping

    Members of Pack 134, sponsored by the Vine Grove Optimist Club and lead by Cubmaster Randy Marvel, went camping at Fort Duffield on Oct. 12. Cubmaster Marvil said the den leaders taught the Cubscouts classes to learn about geology, geography, fire building, cooking, map and compass and old time crafts.

    State Reps. Tim Moore and C.B. Embry recently visited with the Republican Party of Hardin County and gave updates in regard to ongoing committee meetings in Frankfort and the upcoming 2012 General Assembly session.

  • Radcliff Woman’s Club members participate in parade

    Members of the Radcliff Woman’s Club helped the city of Radcliff celebrate the colors of fall by participating in the Radcliff Days Parade on Sept. 22.

    Club members Yvonne High, Pat Nuccitelli, Becky Brecht, Moira Meyer and Florence Mason rode in a deep red truck driven by fellow member Sheila Enyart. The sides of the truck were decorated with banners depicting the club’s name, and the truck bed was highlighted by potted mums. Before the parade got underway, club member Emma Rosenkrantz came by to offer her support to the group.

  • Hardin County Democratic Woman’s Club members attend convention

    The 85th Annual Convention of the Kentucky Democratic Woman’s Club was Sept. 27 through 29 in Frankfort.

    Hardin County Democratic Woman’s Club members in attendance included President Debbie Donnelly, Secretary Becky Bishop, Treasurer Diane Nall and member Winnie Townsend.

  • Woman’s Club members gather for October meeting

    The Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown met Oct. 5 at the Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown. The meeting was called to order by President Betty Sue French. Hostesses were Mary Jo Young, Marian Mays and Becky Bishop. Tuula Poikonen presented the devotional. The program was introduced by Second Vice President Bobbie Dille and was presented by Debbie Skaggs. Skaggs told of her trip to the Holy Lands in May 2012. She shared gifts of Hollywood crosses and Dead Sea salts with members and the Jerusalem shoulder bag as a door prize, which Sandy Rogers won.

  • White Mills Bridge reopens

    After several months of closure, the old bridge at White Mills recently was opened for traffic. In order to celebrate its new beginning and to recognize individuals who contributed to its repair, the White Mills Civic League will host a ceremony at 2 p.m. Nov. 4. A reception will follow in the White Mills Christian Church Life Center. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Christian Life Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.
