  • Henderson celebrates 80th birthday

    Marion D. Henderson celebrated his 80th birthday June 19, 2013, with family and friends.

    He worked much of his life for Brandenburg Telephone Company under the late Joe Tobin and has wonderful memories of his time there. He now farms and is helpful to many people each day.

    Mike and Katie Nelson of Elizabethtown and Gary and Tracy Underwood of LaGrange announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children, Ben Nelson of Elizabethtown and Shelby Overstreet of LaGrange.

    The bride-to-be also is the daughter of the late Robert Overstreet. She is a 2013 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.

    The prospective groom also is a 2013 graduate of WKU with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science. He is a graduate assistant in clinical exercise kinesiology at Ball State University.

  • Bakers welcome Levi William

    Ethan and Amanda Baker of Louisville announce the birth of a son, Levi William Baker, on June 7, 2013, at Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Stuart and Diane Johnson of Louisville. Paternal grandparents are Owen and Suzanne Baker of Prospect.

    Great-grandparents are W.K. “David” and Anna Ruth Nichols of Cecilia, Gene and Ethel Baker of Pleasureville and Judy Richmond and Dorothy Grabois, both of Louisville.

    This week’s column is a long one, so I am just going to jump right into it. But I do want to thank everyone who has given me information this week.

    ANNIVERSARIES. Happy Anniversary to Kim and Russell Smith on June 30. They will be married 23 years. Also, belated anniversary wishes to Steve and Denise Johnson who were married 42 years on June 19 and to L.H. and Sheri Graham, who were married 37 years on June 18.

    Bethel Miller and Linda Riggs Miller of Upton will celebrate their 45 th wedding anniversary July 6, 2013, with their children.

    They have two sons, Kerry Miller of Upton and Jason Miller of Leitchfield; and four grandchildren.

  • Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown supports Cancer awareness

    The month of May was for Cancer awareness Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown made a commitment to do their part for that cause. Initially, a portion of the Proffit’s donation to the club was donated to the American Cancer Society. The club also decided to have a Pampered Chef party for members and friends with the profits going to the Cancer society. Leanna Milby, president of the Elizabethtown Junior Woman’s Club and Pampered Chef consultant hosted the party and was a great help to the club in raising money for Cancer awareness.
