• Canadays celebrate 50th anniversary

    Glenn and Carolyn Canaday will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary June 1, 2013.

    They were married June 1, 1963, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty.

    Mr. Canaday is retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

    Mrs. Canaday worked at Farmers Bank in Vine Grove.

    They have two children, Chris and the late Michelle; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

    They enjoyed a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands in February to celebrate the occasion.

  • Owens celebrate 60th anniversary

    Clifford and Mary Lou Humes Owen of Hodgenville celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 22, 2013.

    They were married May 22, 1953, at Upton Baptist Parsonage in Upton by the Rev. J. E. Darter.

    Mrs. Owen is the daughter of the late Bill and Alva Humes. In addition to being a great mom to three daughters, she is a member of the South Fork Homemakers Club and Eastern Star.

  • Pences celebrate 55th anniversary

    James and Carolyn Pence of Glendale will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary June 7, 2013.

    They were married June 7, 1958, at Harmony Baptist Church in Louisville.

    Mrs. Pence retired from Hardin County Schools and is a charter member of Living Faith Baptist Fellowship.

    Mr. Pence is retired from American Synthetic Rubber Corporation and also is a charter member of Living Faith Baptist Fellowship.

    They have three children, Geneva Petzinger and Kathy Lee, both of Elizabethtown, and Jamie Pence of Glendale; and seven grandchildren.

  • Beards announce birth of son

    Travis and Becky Beard of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a son, Chad Wayne Ray Beard, on Dec. 6, 2012, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He weighed 4 pounds, 9 ounces and was 17 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Donnie and Elaine Nunn of Hodgenville. Paternal grandparents are Ray and Connie Beard of Elizabethtown.

    Maternal great-grandparents are Donald and Leona Morgan of Elizabethtown and Kenneth and Helen Nunn of Hodgenville. Paternal great-grandparents are Nettie Langley of Elizabethtown and the late Ben Langley and Fletcher and Helen Beard.

    Christopher and Sharon Marcum of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Dr. Samantha Marcum of Elizabethtown, to Dr. Jordan Johnson of Louisville, son of Jeffery and Jeanne Johnson of Bowbells, N.D.

    The bride-to-be is a 2008 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in biotechnology and a 2012 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. She is a dental resident at University of Louisville Hospital.

    The bride to be is a 2009 graduate of Central Hardin High School and a 2012 graduate of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. She is a registered nurse at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
