  • Parks celebrate 40th anniversary

    Stephen and Nancy Walters Park of Elizabethtown celebrated their 40th anniversary Aug. 12, 2012.

    They were married Aug. 12, 1972, in Magnolia.

    Mr. Park has been the finance director for the City of Elizabethtown for 30 years. Mrs. Park taught at LaRue County High School for eight years and has worked in the learning lab at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College for 12 years.

    They have a son, Thomas Park of Elizabethtown.

    Thomas M. and Joyce Basham Byerly of Vine Grove will celebrate their 50th anniversary Aug. 18, 2012.

    They were married Aug. 18, 1962, at Holy Guardian Angel Church in Irvington.

    They have three children, Tammy Allen of Vine Grove, Greg Byerly of Fairfax, Va., and Joseph Byerly of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren.

    Kenneth and Johanna Sims of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Elisha Kathryn Sims, to Christopher Lee Clan, son of Brenda and Davis Privette and Lee and Chrissy Mansfield and the grandson of Berteana and Wayne Clan.

    The bride-to-be is a 2009 graduate of Central Hardin High School and is employed at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    The prospective groom was home-schooled and received his GED in 2007. He also is employed at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    Empire Beauty School representatives presented SpringHaven Domestic Violence Program with a check in the amount of $1,533.23. The money was raised by students and staff by doing several fundraising activities. Empire Beauty School supports SpringHaven throughout the year not only with money but also with clothing, toys and other fundraising events.

    Officer Bryce Shumate of the Radcliff Police Department, center, was the guest speaker at a recent Optimist Club of Radcliff meeting. Officer Shumate spoke to the club about Crime Stoppers, a program that encourages residents to call whenever they have information about crime in their area.     American Legion Auxiliary Hardin Unit 113 Americanism Chairwoman Jerilynn Kabel presents Greg Sutton, principal at Vine Grove Elementary School, American flags for all classrooms at the school. One objective of the Americanism program is to promote proper flag etiquette and display.
