Larry and Joyce Miller of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Amanda Miller, to Lindsey Prestia, son of F. Michael Prestia of Prairie Village, Kan., and the late Marilyn Prestia.

The bride-to-be is a 2004 graduate of Central Hardin High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Missouri St. Louis and the Pierre Laclede Honors College with a bachelor’s degree in communication. She is the marketing director for Project Control of Texas and PC Sports in San Antonio.

Carl and Joyce Mercer will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary June 16, 2011.

They were married June 16, 1951, in Ada, Ohio.

They owned and operated Mercer Dry Cleaners in Vine Grove for 33 years. They are both member of the Church of Christ in Elizabethtown.

They have two children, David Mercer of Peoria, Ill., and Renee Stamp of Elizabethtown; and three grandchildren.

HOT DAYS. Is it summer yet? Sure feels like it with the high temperatures this past week. A reminder to always check on your outside pets and make sure they have shade and fresh water. Also, when you do outside activities such as swimming, gardening or just plain walking, don’t forget the sunscreen.

Summer has arrived with a lot of record temperatures, but even though it may be more dangerous for those out working, possibly causing heat exhaustion or stroke, if one isn’t very careful. Floyd has been watering our small garden plot, so the seeds we planted would come up instead of sprouting then perishing.
