Phillip Williams, left, and Bruce McGuffin were guest speakers at the May meeting of Ancestral Trails Historical Society. The topic of discussion was the frontier long hunters, who hunted in Kentucky for one to two years at a time. They also discussed the market hunters, who hunted in Kentucky for money. Each animal hide would bring about $4 in the east or England, where they were made into items such as hats and gloves. Many tools were used by these hunters on their trips and they were explained.

MAY ENDING. The month of May is ending with rain but fairly sunny days. Highway 86 through Franklin Crossroads finally is open, but water still remains on the road and along side many roads. Some homes still don’t have access through their driveways to their homes.

NO SCHOOL. Hardin County Schools will not be in session on Memorial Day. Have fun, but be safe.

LAST DAY. Hardin County Schools’ last day for students is June 2. Have a great summer.

This has been such an interesting, busy week for me, I hardly know where to start, and have made so many interesting pictures and have received interesting pictures along with news items, so here goes.

Fred and Kathleen Cundiff Pence of Elizabethtown celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 28, 2011.

They were married May 28, 1946, by L.E. Martin.

Mr. Pence is a member of Elizabethtown Church of Christ and retired from Dow Corning after 25 years.

Mrs. Pence is also a member of Elizabethtown Church of Christ. She retired from Elizabethtown Sportswear after 20 years.

They are couriers at Kentucky Neighborhood Bank.
