• Night Risers Film Festival & Zombie Fest donation benefits Operation Resilient Warrior

    John Thompsett of Izzy’s Little Creepers, left, presents a check for $100 to Christy Faulkner, founder and president of Operation Resilient Warrior. The money was raised from a Haunted Halloween Bike Ride held during the Night Risers Film Festival and Zombie Fest at Pritchard Community Center in September. Thompsett’s Izzy’s Little Creepers Haunted Attractions and Events Co., who created Elizabethtown Zombie Fest last year, created Night Risers Film Festival and Zombie Fest.

  • Hardin County Cattlemen’s Association takes Ohio bus tour

    The Hardin County Cattlemen’s Association took its annual beef tour and went north to Ohio.

    The theme of the trip was “Ohio – It’s All About Families.” All the stops emphasized families, giving meaning to the trip.

    The first stop was at the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta where they were given a guided tour of the speedway. The guide took the group to millionaire’s row for an overview of the track.

    Toni Swanson and Joseph Sweat announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is a 2000 graduate of Central Hardin High School and studied early childhood education at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Wash. She is a baker at Sam’s Club.

    The prospective groom also is a 2000 graduate of Central Hardin High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Western Kentucky University and is employed at Bluegrass Cellular.

    The wedding is Oct. 20, 2013, at The Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown.

    You know the furnace heat felt very comfortable this chilly Tuesday morning with the temperatures in the upper 30s in some areas. Not quite that cold here, but rather chilly. Will need to bring my Christmas Cactus plants in soon. The instructions are to leave them outside until the temperatures get down into the 40s. We then hang them in the garage, attached to the house. In a short time, they start to bud then we bring them inside for the most beautiful bouquet of blossoms ever.

  • Duggins celebrates 90th birthday

    Robert C. Duggins celebrated his 90th birthday with a surprise celebration Oct. 4, 2013, at Stone Hearth Restaurant, given by his children, Ann Duggins Schell (Ivan) and Bobby Duggins (Bonnie). His two grandchildren and all of his six great-grandchildren attended, as well as other family members and friends.
